about

fun band , terrible name. should have just kept the name for the one gig then shifted to something less ignorant. the band started
with a Mudd Club show in late 79 with 2 basses and vocals. Dick Connette was in the audience, liked what he heard, wanted to play, we got together the next week and Dick joined in on keys and drum machine. At that point in time, he was know as A. Leroy. The band lasted a few years, did some tours. Thanks to Mark Hood, we were able to record in a good studio. We did a 5 hour show of covers at Franklin Furnace , rehearsed more than any band I was ever in . If i hadnt called it social climbers, the band might still be around today. this collection includes the original Hoboken records release plus what was to be the 2nd record that never came out.
Funny note: the fanzine called Sub Pop liked the band. They wanted a song for their pre-label compilation. I gave them Love Is A Job - which is a cover of an MX-80 song and they said “don't you have anything like what’s on your record?” We didn't get to be on the compilation. But now you can hear Love Is A Job- only 42 years late.
